ALEXA BOURNE

English major extraordinaire

Alexa is a senior at Ferris State University with a major in English and minors in creative and professional writing, originally hailing from Manistee, Michigan --  although she spent seven years living in Grand Rapids. As former president of the English Society, former copy editor of the blog, and a proud Ravenclaw, she loves all things bookish and hopes to work in publishing as a editor of young adult and/or children's fiction when she graduates in the spring of 2018. 

PAIGE BRADY

lover of language

Paige is a sophomore at Ferris State University -- hailing from Big Rapids, Michigan, with a major in English. She is the Vice President of the English Society and the current blog manager. Paige's love for language encouraged her to take on both of these positions. She is currently learning German, and hopes to become fluent and delve deeper into the areas of language acquisition and linguistics through traditional classroom study and study abroad.

DR. MELISSA SMITH

English
 Society advisor

Dr. Melissa Smith is the faculty advisor of The Ferris State English Society, and has served in that role for three years. She has a PhD in English Studies from Illinois State University (2010) where she focused on children’s and young adult literature. She is a dedicated fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, has a gorgeous dorgi (dachshund mixed with corgi) named Lexicon Juniper Smith, and is attempting to learn how to paint in her spare time.

SAVANNAH HEYD

future English educator 

Savannah is a Junior at Ferris State University from Cadillac, Michigan studying secondary education with a major in English and a history minor. She is the current secretary of the English Society, which is the first student organization she has joined at Ferris. In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with friends, her boyfriend, and her kitten, Penelope.

MICHELE HARVEY

writer and dreamer

Michele Harvey is a senior at Ferris State University from Tustin, Michigan with a major in English and a minor in History. She is the treasurer of the English Society. As a writer and a proud Ravenclaw, she hopes to publish her own stories and continue to be involved in anything that involves books and writing. When she is not in class, she spends her time at home with her dogs dreaming up imaginary worlds. 

EBONY MORRISSETTE

Spanish extraordinaire

Ebony Morrissette is a senior in the English program at Ferris State University with a minor in Spanish and comes from Clinton Township, MI. She loves writing creatively and would like to turn that into a career as a novelist in the genres of realistic fiction and adolescent literature; additionally, she would like to use her language skills to go into translation and possibly interpretation. Ebony was the Ferris Outstanding English Scholar for the 2016-2017 school year.

CHANDLER OWEN

Chandler Owen is a senior in public relations and music management at Ferris State University. She is from Grand Rapids, Michigan and would like to work within some facet of the music industry. Chandler can most often be found reading a Stephen King novel or swooning over 1972-era David Bowie.

KRISTEN KELLY

Kristen Kelly is originally from Hawaii and is the Community Service Chair of the English Society. Currently a Junior at Ferris State University, Kristen has a major in history and a minor in English literature. Her great passion for Polynesian history drives her goal to work at one of Oahu’s many museums, as well as earn a Master’s degree in history. Kristen hopes to be able to share her passion for the past with others.
